I don't have fences like I'm supposed to. Somewhere along the way they got uprooted, torn apart, scattered to the wind. Anyone who wants to can just wander in, and the things in here can wander out just as easily.
I know why I'm supposed to have them. I've seen what happens even to those who do, but whose interlopers are too persistent, too dedicated to climbing over and breaking through. I've seen what they can do, what some of them probably want to do to me. But the fences are gone, it's too late to rebuild them now. The best I can do is populate my estate with vicious dogs and armed guards, scare off anyone who gets too close without respecting what lies inside the house. I can't keep them out, but I can make them regret coming in.
Similarly, I know I'm not supposed to let my pets wander outside the estate. They scare people, and for good reason. But as I've said, there are no fences, and I can't bear to lock the poor things up in cages. They've had a hard life, and they don't mean anyone any harm. The locals will just have to learn to be comfortable around them, or else leave. It's too late to rebuild the fence, and the other options are simply too cruel.
