The tether is set. It's moving further and further towards the point of no return. This is the hard part. The timing must be very precise, you want to hold together long enough for the tether to get a proper grip on you, but fall apart soon enough not to be ripped asunder when it does. Nothing less than the perfect blend of oak and reed will suffice here.
You focus intently, willing time to stretch as you watch the tether extend further and further, closer and closer to its limit. Pulling taut, and stretching and stretching and stretching until… NOW. The instant the tether catches, you let your entire body go limp, every part of you liquefying until you're only held together by the loosest of connections. You timed it correctly, allowing yourself to be borne aloft as a fluid streamer trailing behind, body whipped in every direction by the force pulling on you but holding together nonetheless. You'd have to catch your breath at the sight of the earth dropping away underneath you, if you still had lungs to breathe through.
In an instant you've left your prison far behind, dragged beyond everything you've known into the open vastness of space. It's as terrifying as it is beautiful. You know that in time it will become as familiar as the planet you've spent all this time trying to escape, but for now it's a wonderful, horrifying mystery.
